Hungarian Landrace Parsley, Herb (Petroselinum crispum)
In 2012, Wild Garden Seed used the USDA seed collection to source 13 flatleaf parsley landraces from 10 different countries including Hungary, Poland, Syria and Iran (the center of origin for parsley). Hailing from around the globe, the parsleys expressed quite a range of diversity in size, form, leaf shape and depth of color. Wild Garden Seed felt six of these parsleys showed promising disease and cold tolerance, so CBN organized a taste tase with chefs. Chefs were able to identify unique flavors in a few parsleys that made them distinct for various applications in the kitchen. “Hungarian Landrace’ was chosen for great flavor, texture and sweetness.
